Forces & Film - Creative Partnerships - London - 2008

Forces & Film was a commission in a special school to collaborate with two teachers and a year 8 and 9 class and to explore their imaginations and represent their ideas and understanding of the science topic forces through film. The teachers also spent a day of CPD at Helen Marshall's studio learning how to use the editing equipment. The films produced were shown at assembly. Both the students and teachers learned how to use the schools digital software in the process. The teachers felt that the creative enquiry had a clear or radical impact on the pupils who were involved. It enabled them to develop confidence in their own ideas, team working, speaking and listening and their approaches to learning. The teachers and class edited the final film.

"I have learnt a range of techniques which I can use to extend my lessons and offer more ways for pupils to engage and achieve. I have also developed a greater understanding of the abilities and potential of my students." (Teacher)

"I will use ICT and photo manipulating far more in lessons to improve creativity and help children to express themselves ICT knowledge and enthusiasm has improved a lot." (Teacher)

"The most valuable aspect of the project was developing the creative partnership with the teacher and watching him develop spectacularly in understanding the creative process and becoming independent from me. I was delighted to be working with a teacher who was so open and committed." (Creative partner)
