| ONE - Sam’s
Salon, London 2001
A solo exhibition in a domestic salon space during London’s
Photomonth. Objects chosen by thirty lone parents in Hackney
and were photographically scanned during visits to their homes
and enlarged to epic proportions.
Assuming an individuality when appearing
alone and a more anonymous presence when seen as a whole,
the human referent being both present and absent at the same
time, the talismanic nature of the object is revealed. The
illuminated surface detail becomes hyper-real.
”"Whilst photography can be included
within the mimetic structures which were used increasingly
in nineteenth century science it’s precise use at the
intersections of photographic naturalism and scientific integrity
suggests it belongs to different, but inter-related, micro-structures
of visibility."
Elizabeth Edwards. In Visible Light .
